This hymn is familiar and a favorite of many people, and has a close connection to Thanksgiving. But many may not know the unique background of the hymn and the situation of its author. Join Pastors Nathanael Mayhew and Sam Rodebaugh as they discuss the history behind the hymn as well as the hymn itself and open our eyes to an even greater appreciation for this old favorite that is especially valuable in times like we are facing today with COVID-19.

Day 32 - Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (NKJV) How often do we look to our Baptism for hope? We should. Paul tells us that through God's working in Baptism we have put on Christ and been received in God's family.

Day 31 - 1 Thessalonians 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (ESV) The believer has a hope that the unbeliever does not: That death is not something to fear. Because of Jesus, death is nothing more than a sleep from which our God will awaken us!

Day 30 - Psalm 30:5 for we spend a moment under his anger, but we enjoy a lifetime in his favor. In the evening, weeping comes to stay through the night, but in the morning, there is rejoicing!. (EHV) Here the LORD give us a comparison: The time of suffering and weeping in this life compared to the hope of joy forever in the life to come. 

Day 29 - Deuteronomy 33:27 "The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms." (NKJV) Israel faced many enemies but with the confidence that the LORD was with them. The same LORD is also with us, as we face trials in our lives.

Day 28 - Psalm 9:9 "The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble." (ESV) The LORD is our absolute assurance of protection. He is the high ground for our lives, and we receive this by faith.  

Day 27 - 2 Corinthians 8:9 "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." (NKJV) - This verse highlights "The Great Exchange" and what Jesus endured and took on, so that we might have what He gave up. This is grace!

Day 26 - Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (NASB) - God is a personal God, He is mine and He is able to give us all that we need. We look to Him for all things, but according to His will and glory.

Day 25 - Psalm 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. (ESV) - The LORD is the only one who can give us true contentment so that we can "rest easy" knowing that His mercy is new every day.
