Bible Study: Samuel
Friday Aug 23, 2019
Friday Aug 23, 2019
Pastors Ben Libby and Nathanael Mayhew dig into the Old Testament history recorded in First and Second Samuel. Review with them the history of God's people as they transition from the period of the Judges and the Theocracy to the period of the Kings and a monarchy. These books were originally one book in Hebrew, but were separated when it was translated into Greek. Even through all of this, the LORD was still in control and worked through the good and the bad of the kings that would follow. We can learn from the failures of even great men of God, who fell into temptation, but God remains faithful and offers forgiveness even for the greatest of sins. These books point us to the Savior who would come from the line of David and establish an eternal kingdom.

Bible Study: 1 John

God is Love. What does that mean? While the world may take that passage from first John and use it for all different kinds of purposes, we see from this letter what that Love really is. Love is Jesus, being both true God and true Man, coming to earth, being seen by people like John, and dying on the cross for the sins of the whole world. The only way that we can love is by being in His love and being in His light. Of course, the sinner does not want to remain in this light and love, but because He has given us His spirit of love, we can believe that we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. We love because He first loved us!

Marriage and the book of Ruth
Friday Jul 26, 2019
Friday Jul 26, 2019
Pastor Radichel and Pastor Libby dig into the book of Ruth in light of what it has to say about the subject of marriage. We see good examples in this book of love and submitting, the two things that husbands and wives are to do. Ruth was submissive in asking Boaz for help, and Boaz showed her love in becoming her kinsman-redeemer. We also look at examples of things that we should try to avoid in our marriage, such as bitterness and pride. We also look at things to we should do to strengthen our marriages. It all goes back to Christ, who loved us and gave Himself up for us!

What does a 2000 year old letter to a young pastor working on an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea have to say to us today? A great deal! Paul wrote to Titus in order to encourage him and direct him in his work of organizing the church of Crete, but this short letter also lays out beautifully a summary of Christian doctrine which serves us still today. He describes the work of Jesus as true God, the Savior of all, the atonement for sin, the Trinity, the work of the Holy Spirit, Justification and Sanctification and much more. This letter continues to instruct and encourage us still today!
